How to Enjoy Water Activities with Beaded Hair Extensions

Summer is here, and with it comes the irresistible urge to dive into refreshing pools, oceans, and lakes. However, if you're wearing hair extensions (NBR), you might wonder how to protect them while enjoying your favorite water activities. With a few precautions and care tips, you can keep your extensions looking fabulous all summer long.

1. Pre-Water Prep

Brush Your Hair Thoroughly: Before getting your hair wet, gently brush through your extensions to remove any tangles. This will help prevent knots and matting while you're in the water.

Apply a Protective Product: Coat your hair and extensions with a leave-in conditioner or any conditioner, even a cheap drugstore option, to avoid wasting your high-quality products. This layer of conditioner helps protect your hair from the damaging effects of prolonged exposure to saltwater and chlorine. For added protection, try using SachaJuan Hair In The Sun. This product is designed to protect your hair from sun damage with UV filters that stay in place even after swimming. It also nourishes and provides light styling hold, making it an excellent choice for summer hair care.

Tie Up Your Hair: If you're planning to be

around water but not fully submerge, consider styling your hair in an updo like a low ponytail or loose bun. Pairing it with a cute visor not only secures your extensions but also reduces tangling while you swim. Even if you anticipate getting your hair wet, opting for an updo can help prevent tangling, while avoiding tight braids to prevent damage. It's also important to limit prolonged water exposure; avoid keeping your hair submerged for extended periods as saltwater and chlorine can be harsh on extensions, potentially altering their color and causing damage. If you need to fully submerge, wearing a swim cap is recommended. Though not the most fashionable, it effectively protects your hair from chlorine and saltwater damage. Always avoid leaving your hair

loose in the pool or sea, as this increases the risk of matting, which can be extremely difficult to untangle once it occurs, especially when you're away on vacation.

3. Post-Water Care

Rinse Immediately: As soon as you're done swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly with fresh water. This helps remove any chlorine or salt that may have settled in your hair.

Wash, Condition and apply Treatments/Masks: Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse your hair, followed by a hydrating conditioner like Oribe Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. Alternatively, you can use Sacha Juan Hair After the Sun in place of your conditioner or as a treatment after washing. We also recommend using Sacha Juan Overnight Hair Repair or Hair Shine to help repair any damage (dry hair). Be sure to focus on the mid-lengths to ends, as these areas are most likely dry and stripped of oils.

Dry Carefully: Pat your hair dry with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing, as this can cause tangling. Allow your hair to air dry to about 50% and use a blow dryer on a low, cool setting (if necessary).

Brush Gently: Once your hair is dry, gently brush it out starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots. Use a wide-tooth comb or a brush specifically designed for extensions to prevent pulling on the beads.

Additional Tips

Regular Maintenance:Visit your stylist regularly to ensure your extensions are in good condition and to address any issues promptly especially if there is matting.

Avoid Heat Styling: Try to minimize the use of heat styling tools, as they can further dry out your hair and extensions. If you must use them, always apply a heat protectant spray (Oribe Dry Hear Protectant Spray).

Protect While Sleeping: Consider sleeping with your hair in a loose braid or ponytail to prevent tangling. Using a silk or satin pillowcase can also reduce friction and help maintain the health of your extensions.

By following these tips, you can enjoy all the fun water activities summer has to offer without compromising the beauty and longevity of your beaded hair extensions. Dive in with confidence and keep your hair looking stunning all season long!
